Matthew and I brought Ginger and her sister Cocoa home as a newlywed couple in 2011 from the Animal Anti-Cruelty League. They were a tiny bunch of wriggling puppies, full of energy and love! Ginger was a particularly friendly and loyal dog; always with a grin on her face. She loved her walks, loved the beach and loved being with the family.
Ginger was a wonderful, patient and playful dog for James, Timothy and Dominic, who adored her and the feeling was mutual. Ginger and Dave Arnold had always had a special relationship, from dog sitting right from when Ginger and Cocoa were puppies.
When we moved to the Netherlands for 3 years in 2022, Ginger was already an old dog and we wondered how she would cope with the plane trip, and a very different and cold life in Europe.
Our prayers were answered, when Dave offered to look after her as the "church dog". She thrived in this new role! This enabled Ginger to live our her final years in peace, and surrounded by love with a sunny garden to lie in.
And although Ginger was always happy to see us in the church tea garden, Dave was her person. Ginger lived to 16 years old - a fine age for a big dog.
We are so grateful to all those who loved and cared for her at the church, particularly Dave, Di Charlton and Colleen Coetzee.
